Tommaso Albasini

I was born and raised in Val di Sole, I live with my partner and my two beautiful children in Dimaro.

My approach to the mountain world is very early: already in kindergarten. My grandfather 'Salo' often took me into the forest, teaching me the secrets of nature and the traditions of the mountain people. Everything I know about this environment I owe to him.

He taught me everything, from the simplest differences between a 'Lares' (larch) and a 'Pec' (spruce), to the names of the forest areas. I spend my days in the forest with him and learn how to live it as I used to: simplicity, respect for nature, slow times, saving resources.

Once these values were a necessity, whereas today they must be a duty, a real philosophy of life.

Tommaso Albasini, my story

Youth

The years went by and I enrolled in accountancy at Mezzolombardo, but as soon as I got my high school diploma, I realised that office life was not for me: being locked in a room eight hours a day was unthinkable.

What I like instead is being in contact with nature, being outdoors and getting my hands dirty.

So I started working in the outdoorenvironment, which I have been doing continuously ever since. In this environment I meet wonderful people with whom I find that I share values.

In winter, in addition to cultivating my passion for snowboarding, I am a 'cat person': when the sun goes down on the slopes of Val di Sole, I take care of their accommodation for the next day.

I like to define myself as someone who is better with my hands than with words: fixing, undoing, cutting, assembling, dismantling. You will always find me busy with my projects, 'never stand still with my teeth en boca'.

Volunteering

My grandfather was also able to pass on to me one of the values I consider most noble: volunteering. That is why in 2005 I became a member of the Dimaro Volunteer Fire Brigade, of which I have also been the station commander for six years. As a firefighter, I see with my own eyes and experience on my own skin, the 'darker' side of nature.

In 2007, I took part in the operations to extinguish the forest fire in Revò, Val di Non. More recently, in 2018, Dimaro was destroyed by the Vaia storm: a landslide of 200,000 cubic metres wiped out part of my village and also the reality where I work.

The force of nature was mighty. We rolled up our sleeves and rebuilt what had been swept away in a few moments.

The change

However, after Vaia, too many balances were compromised. Together with other friends, we decided to embark on a new path: we became partners.

From the union of our strengths, values, ideals and experiences, Ursus Adventures was born.
