Find your way through the forests of Val di Sole

Orienteering is a discipline that combines a passion for nature, the thrill of adventure, and the mental challenge of navigation. Originally developed as a sport, orienteering has deep roots in the human ability to navigate through natural environments, encouraging people to explore the world around them in an active and conscious way.

Essentially, orienteering is an activity in which participants navigate through a predetermined course using only a map and a compass. The challenge is to find the fastest and most efficient way to reach a series of checkpoints scattered across wooded, mountainous, or urban areas. This requires not only good physical fitness, but also map-reading skills, quick decision-making abilities, and precise orientation.

One of the distinctive elements of orienteering is the variety of terrains where it takes place. Enthusiasts of this sport may find themselves running through dense forests, tackling steep slopes, crossing rivers, or navigating urban mazes. This diversity adds an element of unpredictability and makes every orienteering activity a unique experience.

The compass is an essential tool in orienteering, allowing participants to maintain an accurate direction even when the terrain becomes challenging. Learning how to use a compass effectively is crucial for successfully overcoming the various challenges that orienteering presents.

Beyond its competitive aspect, orienteering can be practiced at different levels, adapting to the needs and preferences of each participant. Some experience it as an individual challenge against time, while others take part in team events to share the experience with friends or family.

With Ursus Adventures, you will explore the forest in search of "markers", using a compass and a topographic map.

You will need to orient yourself in nature, trying to identify the checkpoints (stakes with punches) where you will mark your passage in order to reach the final destination marked on the map.

It is an educational activity that develops concentration and team spirit while also being extremely fun. We therefore recommend it for Team Building experiences and for Schools.

We offer several variations of Orienteering, such as the “Treasure Hunt”: find all the food items along the route and, at the end, enjoy a cheerful barbecue.

Orienteering can also be practiced by Mountain Bike or during winter with snowshoes.

Finally, there is the classic version: “Everyone against everyone”, or the Team version, where you collaborate with the members of your group to complete the course.

Orienteering can be practiced all year round and in many different settings.
