Ski Mountaineering

Climbing snowy slopes using “climbing skins”

Surrounded by nature, face to face with the snow and the track you will leave behind on the white blanket. The crisp mountain air and the sound of your breathing in the silence all around you. Your mind and body are already there, immersed in a snowy landscape with the sun peeking through, while you experience the thrill of ski mountaineering.

An ancient sport, ski mountaineering was born even before alpine skiing. Scandinavian populations used to practice it centuries ago as a way to travel and explore new lands. Techniques and materials have changed over time, but the essence of this sport remains the same: climbing snowy slopes using climbing skins.

But what are climbing skins? Originally made from natural animal hides, they have now been replaced by synthetic materials. They are an essential piece of equipment for ski mountaineering, allowing skis to grip the snow and prevent sliding backwards.

Thanks to the Ursus Adventures team, you will have the chance to try this amazing experience. You won’t have to worry about anything, as we will provide all the necessary ski mountaineering equipment before introducing you to this wonderful sport.

You will enjoy a gentle ascent with around 400 metres of elevation gain, accompanied by an alpine guide who will teach you the techniques for climbing snowy slopes. Once you reach the top, you will remove the climbing skins from your skis and enjoy the descent on the slopes.
