Val di Sole, nestled in the heart of the stunning Brenta Dolomites, offers an extraordinary experience for adventure lovers through its exciting via ferratas. These assisted climbing routes are a thrilling way to explore the natural beauty and history of the region.

The via ferratas in Val di Sole are designed for a wide range of skill levels, offering exciting challenges for experienced climbers while remaining accessible to beginners. Originally created as military access routes, via ferratas have evolved over time into fascinating outdoor adventure trails for mountain enthusiasts. These routes provide a unique experience, combining the thrill of rock climbing with the safety of fixed ladders, metal walkways and steel handrails.

The first via ferratas date back to the 19th century in the Italian and Austrian Alps, where they were developed to facilitate troop movements during World War I. Over the years, many of these routes were adapted for civilian use, becoming an exciting form of vertical hiking.

Via ferratas offer an accessible way to approach rock climbing, allowing hikers of all levels to enjoy spectacular landscapes and experience the adrenaline of vertical exposure in complete safety. Routes can range from easy sections suitable for beginners to more demanding climbs designed for experienced mountaineers.

Essential equipment for a via ferrata includes a harness, helmet and energy absorber, which reduces the impact force in the event of a fall.

Trentino is home to countless via ferratas, from the easiest to the most challenging. We recommend starting gradually and always being accompanied by an experienced alpine guide.

We suggest beginning with the “Barba di Fior” Via Ferrata, located in the beautiful Val di Pejo, just a short distance from our Ursus Adventures Center. This route is ideal for learning rock movement techniques and is suitable for both adults and children.

A short approach hike, fun aerial sections (including a 25-meter final rappel) and a long zipline make this via ferrata varied and unforgettable. At the end of the excursion, you will reach the famous Barba di Fior Fort, a World War I fortress located in Val di Peio.
