Originally created as military access routes, via ferratas have evolved over time into fascinating outdoor adventure trails for mountain enthusiasts. These routes provide a unique experience, combining the thrill of rock climbing with the safety of fixed ladders, metal walkways and steel handrails.

The first via ferratas date back to the 19th century in the Italian and Austrian Alps, where they were developed to facilitate troop movements during World War I. Over the years, many of these routes were adapted for civilian use, becoming an exciting form of vertical hiking.

We suggest beginning with the “Barba di Fior” Via Ferrata, located in the beautiful Val di Pejo, just a short distance from our Ursus Adventures Center. This route is ideal for learning rock movement techniques and is suitable for both adults and children.

A short approach hike, fun aerial sections (including a 25-meter final rappel) and a long zipline make this via ferrata varied and unforgettable. At the end of the excursion, you will reach the famous Barba di Fior Fort, a World War I fortress located in Val di Peio.
